Esure: Breakdown cover is safe option

Esure is reminding drivers its breakdown cover can be added to a car insurance policy for as little a £36.75.
The insurer is highlighting the importance of purchasing the cover as new research reveals 13 per cent of people without breakdown protection would attempt a repair on the motorway hard shoulder.
According to the Motorway Madness survey 54 per cent would call a friend or relative to come and fix their vehicle if it broke down on the highway.
Four per cent even admitted to walking along the motorway to the nearest garage to ask for help.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at Esure, said: "Breakdown cover is a very small price to pay for a service that can protect a motorist and their family when they are at their most vulnerable.
"Anyone who calls friends and relatives to rescue them on a motorway is potentially putting three or four people's lives in terrible danger."
Esure said drivers without breakdown cover could end up forking out a lump sum of around £192 if they needed recovery.
It said buying breakdown cover in advance and as part of your car insurance could be a cost-effective way to ensure peace of mind.
