Confused.com: Car insurance for your Valentine

Declaring your Valentine as a named driver on your car insurance might not be a romantic gesture but it's certainly thrifty, Confused.com has discovered.

The price comparison website has found drivers could save up to 16 per cent on their motor insurance simply by adding their spouse to their policy.

With Valentine's Day being a popular time to tie the knot, Confused said it could offer newlyweds a chance to save money as they start their married life together.

It said just by using the website they can find the best deal to save money.

However, their latest research showed that updating their marital status with their current insurer and pledging to share insurance with their new spouse could also help them reduce their outgoings.

Will Thomas, head of motor insurance at Confused said: "Weddings are expensive affairs. However, it is some consolation that a new married status could save drivers up to 16 per cent on their car insurance premiums."

And he said for those not ready to make the commitment just yet, the average customer could save £206 on their motor insurance by using the website, so it was still worth checking out the website's deals.
