MRL: Gap year travel insurance for travellers up to 45

A gap-year travel insurance policy for travellers up to the age of 45 has been launched for people escaping the UK on extended holidays.

MRL Insurance has created its new policy for what it describes as the ever-growing culture of Beccys - Brits Escaping Credit Crunch Year.

According to the firm, the average age of the gap year traveller has risen, prompted by the recent wave of redundancies to strike in the UK.

Now mature gap year travellers can cover themselves for their adventures abroad with MRL's Standard policy, or its SuperCover plan, which is for anyone living outside the UK but in the EU or for those planning hazardous activities.

The policies also cover medical emergency, hospital benefit, luggage delay, missed departure, personal liability, legal protection and emergency dental treatment among other features.

Alan Reif, director of MRL, said: "We wanted to offer a gap year policy which did not penalise against age.

"After all the redundancies in the past year the average age of a gap year traveller is increasing and we can now provide comprehensive cover for them for up to a year, whether they are travelling as a holiday or seeking overseas work for an interim period."
