Redundancy, strikes and even plane hijacks are among the potential events holidaymakers are covered against in Insurefor's new travel insurance policy.

The plan is being hailed by Insurefor as one of the most comprehensive travel insurance policies available.

As well as cover of up to £5,000 in case the policyholder is made redundant,£5,000 if the travel operators go on strike, and £50 per day in the case of a plane hijack the policy also covers for catastrophes such as fire, floods or earthquakes.

It also covers for up to £2,000 of personal luggage claims as well as emergency medical treatment, supplier failure, luggage delays and missed departures.

Antony Martin, MD of Insurefor, said: "Don't be caught out by a policy which only covers for the basics.

"All our policies now cover elements such as supplier failure and redundancy as standard, both of which are vital in the current unstable economic climate."

Policies start at £7.19, which is based on a seven night single trip in the EU.
