Churchill Car Insurance: Free breakdown cover

Friday, 26 June 2009 12:00

Churchill is giving away free breakdown cover to customers buying car insurance until the end September.

The insurer is offering the deal as it unveils new research revealing women are putting themselves at risk of being stranded on the roadside because they are failing to check their car's condition.

Churchill asked a group of men and women to name different areas under a car's bonnet and it emerged that men had far more confidence when it came to motor maintenance than women.

And, while 28 per cent of males thought they were an "expert" when it came to cars only one in twenty women could claim similar knowledge.

Churchill said it decided to offer free breakdown cover to provide added peace of mind to its customers on the road. However, it is also urging people to brush up on their mechanical skills.

Claire Foster, a spokesperson for the insurer, said: "Our research shows that many drivers lack essential car knowledge.

"However, having basic car maintenance knowledge can not only help prevent car breakdown situations but can keep motorists, especially women, feeling more confident."
