No claims bonus while at university?

Wednesday, 01 July 2009 02:16

A Lancashire reader's son is going to university and not taking a car. He wants to know what will happen to his no claims discount (NCD).

Emma Holyer, myfinances.co.uk insurance expert from LV= Insurance, tackles the issue.

Simon from Wigan asks:

Our son is going to University but not using his car.

So if he does not carry on with his insurance does he lose his no claims bonus for when he resumes driving in three years.

Emma replies:

He will lose his NCD unfortunately.

A NCD remains 'valid' for up to two years as it is a reflection of a motorists recent safe driving history.
