AA packs more into travel insurance

Tuesday, 21 July 2009 12:00

The AA is helping travellers guard against the collapse of holiday firms with a new addition to its travel insurance package.

The insurer is now providing automatic cover for the financial failure of firms such as airlines and accommodation providers.

The move comes as more than 50 holiday firms went bust in 12 months, leaving thousands of travellers in the lurch.

Christian Young, chief executive of AA Travel Insurance said this insurance deal was aimed at customers booking each component of their holidays - flights, accommodation, and transfers - themselves as20opposed to going via a package operator.

He added: "Uncertainty in the market is leading many travellers to build their own holiday arrangements and they may have little or no protection in the event of company failure.

"They, as well as business travellers and weekenders and those driving to Europe, will now automatically enjoy that extra protection with AA Travel Insurance."

The AA's additional cover amounts to up to £5,000 financial failure protection.
