Tesco pet insurance: Have dog? Will travel

Tesco is providing overseas travel cover as an optional extra in its pet insurance policies, it announced this week.

The insurer has included the additional feature to cover quarantine costs, lost pets' passports and holiday cancellation, should a customer's animal become too ill to travel.

It has made the move after a poll found a quarter of dog owners are holidaying in the UK, instead of going abroad to make it easier to take their pet with them.

And 83 per cent of owners said they would not put their dog into kennels while they head of on their summer travels.

It has prompted Tesco to increase its pet cover to allow people to take their beloved dog or cat with them when they go on holiday.

Rachel Cutler, head of Tesco Pet Insurance, said: "As a nation of animal lovers, it is telling that a quarter of us organise our holidays around our pets.

"We've provided cover because our customers have told us they would like to share their holiday experience with their pets."
