Halifax: Home insurance £50 'thank you'

Halifax is offering a £50 'thank you' on home insurance.

The firm is highlighting the importance of home insurance as figures reveal rising temperatures are leading to soaring burglary numbers.

The insurer is promoting its unlimited contents and buildings cover which it believes is a vital tool in helping to protect your home.

According to Home Office figures, burglary has increased by four per cent for the second consecutive quarter. And the insurer's figures show unforced burglary claims peak in August.

Now Halifax is urging people to take steps now to avoid becoming a victim.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager, said: "When it's warm outside people often leave windows and doors open to keep cool, but many don't realise that burglaries often happen while homeowners are at home, as opportunist burglars reach in through open doors to grab whatever they can."

Halifax found 22 per cent of people didn't bother to lock windows and doors while they were in the home and 17 per cent didn't have home contents insurance.

Halifax suggests, as well as getting security for your home and remaining vigilant, keeping receipts for expensive goods in case you need to make a claim are important steps to make in protecting your home.

It's buildings and contents insurance now comes with a £50 "Thank You" for customers purchasing the joint cover. And, providing they remain claim free, they will continue receiving this every year they renew their cover.
