Post Office Insurance: Festival cover

Post Office Insurance is urging festival-goers to ensure their belongings are covered before putting them at risk at outdoor events.

The insurer conducted a survey which revealed 77 per cent of adults going to festivals this summer plan to take their Blackberry or mobile phone.

Similar numbers also planned to take digital cameras and large sums of cash.

And the Post Office found revellers heading off to concerts and music events such as V Festival will take personal items which collectively amount to over £450.

Those camping overnight could end up having £600 worth of possessions on them.

Richard Pennant-Jones, head of general insurance at the Post office, said the fact people are taking such expensive items to these events meant they were more at risk from opportunist thieves and pickpockets.

He added: "The Post Office recommends that people take old items or equipment wherever possible and not be tempted to take expensive items such as designer sunglasses and bags.

"And they should check their home insurance contents policy to be clear what personal possessions are covered automatically and whether they need to get extra cover."
