Student bonus on M&S home insurance

Students whose parents have Premier contents insurance with M&S will have automatic cover for their possessions whilst at university.

The insurer is reminding students they can enjoy unlimited cover whilst away from home on their parent's M&S policy, and this will also cover their bikes.

According to a survey by M&S home insurance, almost a quarter of student cyclists at UK universities have been the victim of bike theft.

Meanwhile, the poll of 2,000 students found 14 per cent had been burgled while at university and 22 per cent of student cyclists have had their bikes stolen.

Now M&S is urging students to check they are insured before leaving home as only 16 per cent of those surveyed said they had take out insurance to cover their possessions.

Steve Price, head of general insurance at M&S, said: "It's important to make sure you are insured in case your bike is stolen or damaged.

"Before taking out a separate policy students should check whether their parents' home insurance policy covers their property when at university."
