Aviva launches child health insurance

Child Health Cover and Aviva have designed a private medical insurance scheme specifically for children.

The product, Child Health Solutions, provides prompt access to private treatment in a range of areas including dental treatment and speech therapy.

For £13.50 a month parents will also receive access to 24 hour GP and stress counselling helplines, free online child health information and will be able to use specialist paediatric hospitals.

The scheme also provides accommodation for one parent when staying with the child in hospital.

Rebecca Freebody, of Aviva UK Health, said the product was unique because it included benefits specifically tailored to children.

She added: "We are committed to offering products which work in conjunction with existing NHS provision and whilst the NHS is particularly good at providing paediatric care, particularly for the very young, we recognise there are certain specialities which can be complemented by the private sector."

It costs £13.50 to cover a child and there are discounts for additional children. Newborns are added free to existing policies, until the renewal date.
