New L&G critical illness cover 'raises the bar'

Friday, 21 May 2010 12:00

Legal & General (L&G) is hoping to reduce the amount of declined claims by making it clearer to customers what their critical illness cover includes.

The improved policy is aimed at boosting the confidence of clients when taking out the insurance, by providing definitions of 11 illnesses for which they can claim.

Gemma Ledbrook, Sesame Research manager, said: "The critical illness market has become increasingly competitive [and] L&G has made a concerted effort in improving its proposition."

As part of the enhanced policy, L&G has included cover for four extra illnesses including mastectomy and open heart surgery.

Bonnie Burns, L&G's protection product and technical director, added that the policy is "raising the bar".
