Aviva cuts critical illness premiums

Friday, 29 January 2010 12:00

Aviva is reducing premiums for its critical illness insurance when health exclusions for cancer or multiple sclerosis are added to policies.

It means policyholders will pay less by asking for these conditions to be excluded from their insurance plan, but will not be able to claim if they develop the illnesses.

The move is being hailed by insurance adviser Lifesearch as a positive move for consumers and the industry in general.

It has been campaigning for all insurers to cut premiums for customers with exclusions as often policyholders would pay the same amount with exclusions as without.

Meanwhile, Aviva's chief underwriter, Michael Whyte, said: "At Aviva we recognise that every customer is an individual and their circumstances differ.

"This latest improvement represents another step in Aviva making our cover more accessible, affordable and relevant to our customers."

The change will be activated on all applications currently being processed.
