Marks & Spencer (M&S) is offering up to £7,000 on its pet insurance, to help deal with the problems that the changing climate can cause to animals.

Louise O'Dwyer, operations manager for M&S advice line Vetfone, said that animals - as well as humans - suffer because of pollen over the summer months and this can lead to various problems.

"Common allergies . are those affecting the skin," she added. "However, the respiratory tract can also be affected, leading to wheezing, sneezing or coughing."

The insurance is available for animals more than eight weeks old and covers vets' fees, lost or stolen pets and offers unlimited telephone access to a vet nurse 24 hours a day.
