Pet insurance needed for British homeowners?

Wednesday, 02 March 2011 04:48

Pet insurance might be a worthwhile consideration for a number of British homeowners as up to £3.3 billion in damage is caused to households by their animals each year.

This is according to research conducted by Confused.com, which found pets have caused around £690 of damage to the average pet owners' household during the past 12 months.

Carpet was named as the number one target with over 90 per cent of respondents reporting some sort of damage to their floor - be it scratched, ripped or stained .

David Wilson was one of the victims and said: "I have a cat that managed to turn on the kitchen tap and when I got home late evening the place was completely flooded."

He added the flat underneath him was also completely flooded, ensuring his neighbour was not pleased either.

Despite this, the comparison site found 60 per cent of pet owners are unaware if their current home insurance policy covers pet damage.
