Barclays issues reminder to keep outbuildings secure

Home insurance from Barclays might be an option that some consumers wish to consider to minimise the potential costs of thefts from their shed this summer.

The organisation revealed it provides customers with cover up to the value of £3,000 for the contents of secured outbuildings, while the loss of bicycles can be claimed up to £2,500.

It gave a reminder of the importance of keeping valuables such as mowers, power tools, barbecues and garden furniture locked up as Barclays head of home, motor and travel insurance Shane Leivers stated many individuals do not consider that replacing items from their garden shed could prove as expensive as having to re-buy electricals found in the home.

He suggested people should be "extra vigilant to make sure that they lock any high-risk garden items away in a secure place such as a garage, as thefts are a particular problem in spring and summer".
