With the royal wedding approaching and the opportunity for consumers to enjoy 11 days leave by booking just three days off work a number of people are set to head off on a break.

According to ABTA - The Travel Association, Spain tops the list of holiday destinations for Britons, while good value late deals are also on offer for trips to countries including Tunisia and Egypt.

Figures from the airports revealed that 125,000 people, some of whom might be in need of travel insurance, are set to depart from Manchester, 250,000 from Gatwick, 600,000 from Heathrow and 160,000 from Stansted.

ABTA chairman John McEwan stated he is "delighted" that so many people are choosing to take advantage of the bank holidays by heading overseas or visiting a location within the UK.

"Easter is the traditional curtain raiser to the summer and the Royal Wedding bank holiday has given a special boost to bookings," he said.
