Friday, 23 September 2011 01:56

Ford's KA2 is the cheapest car for 17 to 20-year-olds to insure at £1,651.40 a year, a Confused.com survey has revealed.

New research from the price comparison website showed that the standard KA came in second on the list of cars valued between £6,000 and £10,000, followed by the Peugeot 107, the Daewoo Matiz and the Mini One.

The Honda Civic was the most expensive at £4,515.92 per year, ahead of Volkswagen's Golf and Vauxhall's Astra.

The website also revealed car insurance costs for young drivers hit record highs in the second quarter of 2011, with 17 to 20-year-olds paying as much as four times the average amount.

Gareth Kloet, head of car insurance at Confused.com, commented: "Young drivers and learners are telling us that the cost of insurance is the biggest barrier to getting behind the wheel: more so than the cost of buying the car.

"Buying your first car should be exciting, not a worry about whether you can afford the insurance costs," he added.
