Drink drivers 'will see car insurance costs soar by 85%'

People intending to drink over the festive season have been advised to leave their car at home or risk seeing their insurance costs soar.
MoneySupermarket.com has warned that having a DR10 penalty on a driving licence can make the price of cover rise from an average of £424 a year to £784, an increase of 85 per cent.
Furthermore, some people convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol may find it difficult to insure their vehicle at all in future.
Peter Harrison from MoneySupermarket.com said it is better not to have any alcohol at all when driving, as it affects people differently.
"Ensuring you have adequate travel arrangements in place to get you home is essential as driving while under the influence should not be an option in any circumstances," he added.
DrinkAware also recommends that while the legal blood alcohol limit for drivers is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood and 35mg per 100ml of breath, it is better not to drink at all.
