Aviva urges homeowners to prepare for storms

With more stormy weather on the way for Britain over the next few days, Aviva has urged homeowners to take precautions to protect their property.

Half of the UK could be battered with wind gusting at more than 45 miles per hour this week, so the insurer said it is wise to secure loose objects such as garden furniture and remove aerials from roofs.

It also recommended parking cars away from trees in case they are blown down.

However, Aviva pointed out that storm damage is covered as standard by the company's home insurance, so anyone affected should call the company straight away.

"And if you are forced to move out of your home the cost of alternative accommodation is also paid for. We can make separate arrangements for your pets, too," said Aviva's Carole Gallagher.

Direct Line Home Insurance recently warned Britons that they should get ready for wintry weather, with 40 per cent of homes currently vulnerable to issues such as frozen pipes and broken boilers.
