Avoid royal mistakes at weddings with insurance

Couples thinking of getting married over the summer have been urged not to make a royal mistake when preparing for their weddings.
After Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles had to postpone their wedding at the last minute, couples are being asked to take out wedding insurance to cover themselves against this possibility.
The average wedding now costs £16,500 but, despite this, only 15 per cent of weddings are insured. Venue and service providers usually ask for payment in advance, and a last-minute postponement, such as someone in the family passing away, could see couples lose money already paid.
One wedding insurer told the Evening News: "As Charles and Camilla have found out, even with the best laid plans, unforeseen circumstances can disrupt your wedding plans. Although the royal couple have been able to rearrange their ceremony, for most couples this will involve a big cost, possible running into thousands."
"Given the amounts being spent, it is worrying that the majority of couples don't bother to insure their wedding, despite the cost of insurance being very small compared with the sums being covered."
A wedding postponement due to unforeseen circumstances is covered by wedding insurance. In addition insurance cover can provide peace of mind for other potential disasters, such as stolen wedding gifts.
Couples have been warned to check the amount covered by each section of their wedding policy, before purchasing insurance.
