Halifax offers £50 to building and contents insurance customers

Friday, 05, Feb 2010 01:33

Halifax is offering a £50 'thank you' to customers buying combined buildings and contents insurance, a deal it is highlighting in the run-up to Valentine's Day.

The home insurer is also giving customers £50 for every year they renew their cover, provided they remain claim-free.

As one in five people plan to buy or receive an expensive piece of jewellery on Valentine's Day, Halifax said making sure valuables are protected with a good insurance policy is more essential than ever.

David Rochester, head of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "When planning a romantic proposal, insuring a valuable gift is not necessarily the first thing that springs to mind, so we are reminding people to make sure expensive jewellery is fully covered both inside and outside the home."

As well as ensuring expensive items are valued regularly, informing your insurer of any high value items and keeping valuables in a safe place, Halifax is also urging people to take special care of extremely expensive goods.

Mr Rochester said: "We recommend anyone with items over £1,500 in value take out additional specified items cover to ensure their most precious possessions are protected."
