Public liability insurance

Public liability is insurance to cover the damages awarded to a member of public for injury to themselves or damage to their property. If you are self-employed or holding a big event then it may be worth considering taking out public liability insurance.

Event such as fireworks parties held at your home can leave you open to a public liability insurance claim if a member of the audience was injured.

Public liability insurance is essential for businesses that hold events attended by large numbers of people to cover you against compensation claims from individuals who may have been injured at an event or on your business premises.

The standard cover for public liability insurance ranges from £1 million to £5 million and is also required to be accepted for many types of contract if you are a business that deals with the public away from your main premises. There are other similar types of insurance such as tradesman’s liability insurance, shop insurance and employers’ liability insurance.
