Friday, 01 September 2006 12:00
Nick Raynor, investment adviser from The Share Centre, comments on this week's market.
He said: "The FTSE 100 left it late this week to make any significant moves as the index moved 43 points on Friday, the previous three days had yielded just a gain of 27 points.
"The mining sector received a boost as striking Chilean miners finally agreed a deal and production at the worlds largest copper mine can finally get back up to full steam.
"Despite protests at the Drax power station in Yorkshire the shares in Drax rallied on Friday by nearly three per cent.
"The banking sector also had a good performance on the week and rumours once again circulated on who would be the next takeover target in the sector.
"For the week the FTSE 100 gained 70 points to close at 5,949."
