Mining stocks weigh on FTSE 100

The FTSE 100 fell 0.5 per cent to 4,137.94 by 08:45 BST as miners reversed their rally, dragging the index lower.

Fresnillo dropped 4.67 per cent, erasing some of yesterday's gains, while Lonmin fell 2.33 per cent and Rio Tinto was down by 2.08 per cent.

Publisher Pearson was one of the handful of risers on the index, and was up by 1.79 per cent, followed by United Utilities, up by 1.21 per cent.

Financial stocks also stayed out of the red, with Lloyds Banking Group up 0.95 per cent and Royal Bank of Scotland up by 0.79 per cent.

Over in the US, markets remained flat with the Dow Jones up by 0.06 per cent and the S&P 500 up by 0.35 per cent.
