Barclays: 6 year regular income bond at 7%

Tuesday, 25 August 2009 10:40

Barclays Wealth has extended the investment term on its regular income bond to six years.

Previously a five-year product, the FTSE 100-linked bond offers investors a return of 7.0 per cent annually or 5.7 per cent monthly, irrespective of index performance.

The bond includes a capital return guarantee unless the FTSE 100 index falls by more than 50 per cent of its starting level at any point until maturity. In the instance the steep drop occurs, capital will be reduced 1:1 in line with the index.

"The Regular Income Bond is designed for those who are prepared to accept a risk to their capital in return for a rate of return 6.5 per cent above the current base rate," said Barclays Wealth manager, Lisa Chaudhuri.

She concluded: "We think this presents a compelling alternative to some of the more traditional methods of gaining regular income which are not meeting the needs of investors presently."
