FTSE flat in early trading

The FTSE 100 was almost completely flat in early trading on Thursday as banks propelled by JPMorgan results saved the index from miners slipping back on data from China.

By 10.24 am the leading shares index was down 1.14 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 5,795.11.

Carnival and Barclays led the gains by rising 2.46 per cent and 2.02 per cent, while Royal Bank of Scotland was up 1.74 per cent.

Experian dragged 2.13 per cent on the market, with Randgold Resources was down 1.60 per cent and BHP Billiton 1.53 per cent.
