Treasury Committee to scrutinise budget

Tuesday, 29 March 2011 04:42

The Commons Treasury Committee has started taking evidence as part of its inquiry into the 2011 Budget.

The cross-party group of MPs is tasked with analysing the government's management of the economy, with the breaking down of the measures outlined in George Osborne's latest Budget a key part of its responsibilities.

As such, it has been confirmed that the committee is to today (March 29th) hear evidence from officials from both the Office for Budget Responsibility as well as from HM Treasury.

Additionally, the chancellor himself will also make an appearance in front of the Commons Treasury Committee, where he will be asked to outline the thinking behind his latest batch of austerity measures.

This comes in the same week that the Commons procedures committee issued a report calling for rules banning the use of Twitter during parliamentary debates to be overhauled, so long as MPs agreed to Tweet with a sense of decorum.
