The Aberdeen Emerging Markets fund emerged as the number one ISA choice for customers at The Share Centre during the 2011-12 tax year.

Investment research manager Sheridan Admans said the £3.2 billion fund offered “broad diversity to the continual story of the emerging economies”.

But he added: “It has recently been announced that due to the success of this fund, it is regrettably being soft closed to restrict monetary inflows.”

Charting in second place was the £3.3 billion Invesco Perpetual Monthly Income Plus fund, managed by Paul Read, Paul Causer and Neil Woodford, with the £1.7 billion Newton Asian income fund in third place.

Mr Admans said while the Invesco Perpetual fund is principally fixed income, albeit allowing the inclusion of equity investments, the Newton option aims to identify the best income yielding companies from the vast arena of Asia.

In fourth place among Share Centre customers was the Investec Monthly High Income fund, followed by the largest UK equity income fund, the Invesco Perpetual High Income, run by Neil Woodford.
