Confused.com checks credit card access

Confused.com has added a new tool to its credit card comparison website to aid users with concerns about their credit rating.

The profiling tool checks which credit cards are likely to accept customers who have had problems with debt in the past without leaving a dent on their credit record.

Joanne Garcia, head of credit cards at the price comparison website, said: "With providers tightening criteria and rejecting many applications our free tool puts you one step ahead.

"The credit scoring tool on the Confused.com website checks which cards on the site will be the most likely to accept them and it doesn't leave a footprint."

Research by Confused.com revealed almost 40 per cent of people would not apply for a credit card though fear of wrecking their credit score. Yet 25 per cent have checked to see if details on the file are correct.

People in the 22 to 30 age group were the most concerned about tarnishing their score and 12 per cent of those polled said their credit rating had improved in the last 12 months.
