Borrowers warned of fee-for-loan firms

Moneysupermarket.com has taken an unusual step of warning consumers about two specific loans companies.

The website claims Loans4Sure and The Loan Supermarket have contacted consumers claiming they are connected to or have been passed customer's details from moneysupermarket.

Ian Williams, at moneysupermarket, explained the problem become apparent after customers started complain on their forums about the firms.

"People were upset that they were being contacted about loans at high rates and with fees," he said.

"They are nothing to do with us."

Mr Williams added moneysupermarket was taking legal action to stop them as they were hitting consumers and the firm's reputation.

In a recorded call, one of the firms infers that they were passed details from moneysupermarket.com in order to find the caller a loan.

Consumers writing on forums have complained of being ripped off by Loans4Sure and The Loan Supermarket by paying fees to organise loans and then no loans appearing in their accounts.

One case a consumer claims his bank account was emptied of funds when he gave his card details to a firm.

"People looking for a loan should also be aware that we never charge an upfront fee for a loan or a loan application," Mr Williams said.

"We advise customers to be avoid firms who ask for an upfront fee in order to apply for or be accepted for a loan."

Both Loans4Sure and The Loan Supermarket were contacted but neither was available to comment.
