Sainsbury's credit card rewards shoppers with Nectar points

Sainsbury's is providing four Nectar points for every £1 spent in its supermarkets to customers using its credit card.

The Sainsbury's Credit Card deal means the number of points awarded is equivalent to two per cent cashback when customers use their card in the store.

But the rewards can be accumulated elsewhere too, as card-holders who use the credit card for non-Sainsbury's purchases and services will receive two points for every £10 spent.

This is the equivalent of 0.1 per cent cashback.

Sainsbury's said a family spending £100 every week at the supermarket using the card would receive £104 worth of Nectar points a year on that expenditure alone.

The deal is being promoted as Sainsbury's publishes research revealing reward credit cards are becoming more rare, with the number available falling by 11 per cent in the past year.

Yet, increasing numbers of people say they are now taking better advantage of their reward scheme cards.

Craig Hunter of Sainsbury's credit cards, said: "The recession has made a lot of people reassess their finances and it's great to see that people are starting to make the most of the rewards on offer via their credit cards."
