The balance transfer period on Barclaycard Premium has been increased.

New customers can now enjoy 16 months at zero per cent with a handling charge of 2.9 per cent.

They will also gain zero per cent interest on purchases for the first three months and a 16.9 per cent typical annual percentage rate.

The balance of transfers period has been upped to 16 months in a bid to provide people with an affordable way of controlling their finances.

Reacting to the news, credit card manager at Confused.com Chris Griffiths noted: "It's great for consumers to see providers competing on long-term balance transfer rates like this."
