AA trial launches fuel cashback credit card

AA Financial Services has trial-launched a new credit-card that offers three per cent cash back on fuel purchases up to an annual spend of £2,000 and 0.5 per cent cash back on all other spending.
The AA Reward Plus Visa card is available to a limited number of current members of the AA. Non-members can apply to join the AA and apply for the card at the same time.
At a time of unprecedented high costs for motorists in the UK, the credit card offers valuable potential savings to motorists.
Points accrued can be exchanged for cash or other goods and services including AA products such as car insurance or breakdown cover. The interest rate charged on overdue balances is 19.9 per cent APR on card purchases.
Mark Huggins, director of AA Financial Services said: "The card delivers 3 per cent back on fuel up to 2,000 spend per year. It's more than the national average annual spend on petrol of about 1,700. But once that ceiling is reached, the card continues to earn points at the standard 0.5 per cent rate that applies to all purchases.
"As soon as the first anniversary of taking out the card is reached, the fuel earning rate returns to 3 per cent."
The trial is for limited cards after which customer reaction will be assessed before making the card widely available.
