Barclaycard has launched the OnePulse card that combines a Transport for London Oyster card, credit card and cashless contactless swipe payment card.
Using the OneTouch payment system Londoners will be able to make purchases of £10 or under with a single touch of their card against a reader - as they would use an Oyster card - instead of entering a PIN or signature.
The credit card function of the Barclaycard OnePulse offers zero per cent interest for purchases for six months and has a rate of 14.9 per cent APR typical variable.
Shashi Verma, Transport for London director of fares and ticketing, said: "This innovative partnership with Barclaycard is another way that Oyster technology can make life more convenient for Londoners, providing them with not only cheaper, easier and more convenient travel but also the ability to make low cost transactions on everyday items."
Antony Jenkins, chief executive of Barclaycard, said: "Barclaycard is always looking to provide innovative products that make life easier for our customers. In December 2006 we announced our desire to make cashless payments a reality in the UK and today, using our OneTouch payment technology, we realise that aim.
"This is the first UK credit card of its kind. I am very excited to launch Barclaycard OnePulse and welcome Londoners to the future of payments in the capital. Barclaycard OnePulse will make life easier and more hassle-free for those who live and work in and around London."
So far some 4,000 Londoners have signed up for information about the Barclaycard OnePulse, which will go live later this year. Retailers signed up to have the new OneTouch technology include Books Etc, Chop'd, Coffee Republic, EAT, Krispy Kreme, Threshers and YO! Sushi.
