HSBC has announced its 1.99 per cent discount mortgage offer is being continued until the end of October.

The deal, which was launched on September 1st, has attracted huge interest according to the bank, which reported sales of £245 million worth of discount mortgages in that month alone.

Martijn van der Heijden, head of mortgages for HSBC, said: "Our range of mortgages have topped the best buy tables for most of the year.

"We made a commitment to stay open for business and extending the 1.99 per cent mortgage is part of that."

The 1.99 per cent rate is available on two-year discount mortgages for customers with loan-to-value (LTVs) of 60 per cent.

It comes with a fee of £1,199.
