End of stamp duty holiday 'hits home loans'

New mortgage lending fell during January.

The end of the stamp duty exemption for properties valued at between £125,000 and £175,000 saw lending for house purchase fall sharply in January, particularly among prospective first-time buyers, according to a new report.

House prices rose by just 0.1% in March according to Rightmove

There was more evidence this morning that the recovering in the housing market appears to have run aground as the latest index of house prices showed they had increased by the smallest amount on record in March.
