The credit card from the John Lewis/Waitrose group has topped a new customer satisfaction poll.
Research by Which? Money reveals 84 per cent of John Lewis card customers are very satisfied with the service they receive – with the credit card from the partnership rated highly for bill accuracy and clarity, and being most likely to be recommended to a friend.
The top five was completed by Nationwide, Co-operative Bank, Marks & Spencer and Smile, all scoring over 70 per cent for overall satisfaction.
The worst performers were Mint (32 per cent very satisfied customers), Bank of Scotland (34 per cent) and Virgin Money (36 per cent).
Martyn Hocking, editor of Which? Money, said: "High street retailers are clearly stealing a march on traditional credit card providers when it comes to keeping customers satisfied – John Lewis/Waitrose is leading the field, but Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Sainsbury's all fare well too."
The research also shows consumers are failing to shop around for credit cards.
Most people picked a card because they had another financial product with the provider (28 per cent). Some 21 per cent chose their card because of the reward scheme.
"You should choose a credit card according to your spending habits and how much you repay each month. If you hold a card simply because you have another product with that provider or for reward scheme points then watch out - you’re unlikely to be getting the best deal," Mr Hocking said.
"You could also be wasting money if you hold a card with one of the big four banks – only Barclays currently offers a card that makes it into the Which? Money Best Buy tables."
