Transport costs turn off Londoners most

High transport costs are the biggest turn-off for city living, a new poll of Londoners reveals, even greater than rent.
Some 45 per cent of Londoners cite high travel costs – such as parking, public transport and the congestion charge - as the most discouraging expense of living in London.
For 39 per cent, high rent and property prices were the greatest hiccough of London life, while tubes and buses irked one in five.
Paul McLoughlin, general manager of car sharing firm Zipcar UK, which carried out the poll, said: "Londoners are put under financial pressure living in the second most expensive city in the world, fuelled by the priciest transport system on the planet.
"It is clear Londoners resent paying a lot of money for travel and are keen to make savings wherever possible."
The poll also looked at what Londoners would do if given an extra £500 a month.
Some 70 per cent would put the cash into savings, while 39 per cent would splash out on more holidays.
Extra cash would help 15 per cent of Londoners party and 14 per cent would give it too charity.
