Insurancewide criticises Norwich Union

Wednesday, 17 Sep 2008 17:34
Insurance comparison website Insurancewide has said it is "disappointed" with Norwich Union's initiative to provide quotes from competitors on its website.

Aviva-owned Norwich Union has revamped its website with an initiative offering consumers quotes from other insurers alongside its own.

The website is accompanied with a television advertising campaign promising consumers can see quotes from rival insurers, even if they are cheaper.

However, Insurancewide chief executive James Harrison said: "The system simply doesn't work in favour of the customer.

"The choice of insurers is inadequate in that the customer is only allowed to compare a Norwich Union quote with three other providers from a very limited panel."

In addition, if the consumer does see a better quote, they are unable to buy it through the site.

"We are disappointed that Norwich Union has launched a half-hearted initiative here. It is simply not a valid player in the comparison website market," Mr Harrison added.

Instead, consumers should head for insurance comparison websites for a true comparison, Mr Harrison said.
