Allianz Insurance: Recycled car insurance repairs

Saturday, 02 Feb 2008 15:15
Allianz Insurance is to offer UK motorists greener repairs with their car insurance.

The insurer is offering policyholders the option to use recycled parts when they repair their vehicles through its network of approved mechanics.

The option not only allows drivers to cut their carbon footprints, but also helps Allianz to cut costs - as on a £1,000 claim an average of £240 can be saved by using recycled parts.

Quentin Willson, motoring broadcaster, said: "This is a complete no brainer and will help reduce the tons of perfectly usable parts that end up in landfill sites every day.

"I'd like to see the option of using recycled parts offered to all policy holders."

A pilot of the scheme in the north of England saw 40 per cent motorists opting for recycled parts.

"Of those policyholders that agreed to the use of recycled green parts, we had no complaints about quality or service received," said Dane Loosley, Allianz Insurance motor damage claims manager.

"We have demonstrated the use of recycled green parts is worthwhile, for the insurer, repairer policy holder and last but not least the environment."
