Bus conductors 'most likely to crash'

Wednesday, 05 Nov 2008 08:01
Bus conductors and GPs are the most likely professions to crash their car, while zoologists are among the safest drivers, according to research.

Research from moneysupermarket.co.uk shows motorists who are at fault in an accident could see their insurance premiums hiked by over 60 per cent, and reveals the professions most likely to crash.

Bus conductors top the list, with an accident rate of 16 per cent, metallurgists are close behind and GPs come third.

The health professions feature heavily in the top ten, with psychologists in fourth place, speech therapists in fifth and surgeons in seventh.

At the other end of the scale, engravers appear to be the safest on the road, with only 0.36 per cent causing accidents, while horse dealers come second and zoologists third.

Driving examiners also appear to be among the safest, with just 1.41 per cent responsible for a crash.

Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Driving examiners are clearly used to being extra vigilant on the roads and take one of the top spots in the list of professions least likely to cause an accident - it's encouraging that new drivers are in safe hands!

"Worryingly it is the healthcare professionals who seem to be releasing their work-related stress when behind the wheel."

The research was based on 10 million user quotes from the price comparison site.
