Ten years after Brits first started logging on the super information highway to check their bank details, we are now becoming addicted to checking our finances online.
A poll by Norwich and Peterborough Building Society (N&P) reveals 90 per cent of its customers now use online banking facilities.
But for eight per cent checking their online savings accounts and current accounts is becoming addictive and they log on several times a day.
Some 47 per cent customers polled access their N&P account several times a week, 19 per cent log in once a day and just four per cent use the facility once a month or less.
Some 39 per cent check their online accounts in the evening, 56 per cent do so in the day and 15 per cent log on at work.
A total of 98 per cent said internet banking has made their life easier, and 25 per cent said the greatest benefit was the convenience of being able to see their account details at any time of the day.
For 20 per cent, keeping a close eye on their accounts and being able to quickly spot any possible fraudulent transactions was the main benefit of online accounts.
A third said internet banking enabled them to pay bills or transfer money between accounts quickly and easily and a further fifth said it saved them time.
