Pension value shrinking?

Friday, 25 July 2008 12:00

A reader from Frodsham is worried about a fall in the value of her pension fund.

Our pensions expert, Tom McPhail, a leading commentator on pensions at Hargreaves Lansdown with broad experience of pensions and investment related issues, takes him through the problem.

Sarah from Frodsham asks:

I currently have a stakeholder pension with PMAS. However, I have noticed that this has depreciated in value over the last 2 years.

Is there another provider which can offer a better return on my investment?

Tom replies

Everything has gone down in value over the past two years, apart from cash, gold, oil and the cost of living.

Don't switch just because it has gone down, switch if you think that another fund manager will do better in the future, which is not the same thing.
