Finances 'are biggest retirement worry'
Finding the money to "enjoy retirement to the full" is the biggest stress facing people who have stopped working, a new survey has found.
The poll by Scottish Widows revealed that 30 per cent of retirees see money worries as the major barrier to enjoying their new free time.
Meanwhile, more than a quarter (27 per cent) of respondents said they had found it difficult to make the transition from having a career to retirement, with 23 per cent missing the structure of the working week and 15 per cent claiming they have struggled to cope with their reduced social life.
People in their 50s approaching retirement were even more concerned about their finances and leaving employment.
Over half (56 per cent) said they were concerned about not having enough money to enjoy their retirement, while 30 per cent claimed they would miss having structure in their life.
Another 22 per cent said they enjoy their job and do not want to stop working.
The figures come after the government said it intends to scrap the current default retirement age of 65 by October 2011.
