Higher charges for pay as you go customers?

Wednesday, 29 June 2011 11:14

Consumers on Vodafone and Orange networks could be affected by higher pay as you go charges next month.

Vodafone customers, for example, will see the cost of calling landlines, mobiles and voicemail climb by 19 per cent, with a 20 per cent hike seen in text costs.

Orange clients, meanwhile, will face an additional 25 per cent charge when calling landlines, mobiles and voicemail, while texting costs will also rise by 20 per cent.

According to price comparison site uSwitch.com, a minimum of nine million people could be affected by these changes.

Technology expert with the company Ernest Doku described the development as a "real kick in the teeth" for cash-strapped Brits.

"Orange and Vodafone are two of the biggest networks and it's our only hope that the others don't follow suit," he remarked, advising people to review their mobile usage to see if it is worth switching to a low-value contract.
