Tesco Clubcard points for savers

Tesco has increased the interest rate on its online savings account and is giving high-saving customers extra Clubcard points.

The rate on the supermarket's Internet Saver account is now 6.5 per cent and customers can also benefit from limitless penalty-free withdrawals.

In addition, anyone opening an account before November 12th whose balance is £1,000 or more on November 30th will also receive Clubcard points.

Depending on the balance, some customers could receive up to 2,000 of the points, which can be used to buy items in Tesco stores.

Jeremy Sutton, head of Tesco savings, reassured customers that the recently-announced acquisition by Tesco of Tesco Personal Finance meant it was in a strong financial position.

"Their money is safe with us," he said. "The rate increase in our Internet Saver account makes it one of the best deals in the market and by rewarding new customers with Clubcard points for choosing Tesco we are doing as much as we can to help customers through this uncertain period."

The rate comes with a 1.5 per cent bonus for 12 months when an account is opened. The offer is limited to one account per household.
