Citi boss 'set to head Lloyds Banking'

Ex-Citigroup head Sir Win Bischoff is set to become the next chairman of Lloyds Banking Group, according to a report.

The Financial Times said the veteran British banker has been asked by UK Financial Investments (UKFI), the group looking after the government's interest in Lloyds, to helm the bank.

The UK government has a 43.5 per cent stake in Lloyds and is keen to recoup its money.

Sir Victor Blank, Lloyds' current chairman, agreed to step down after Lloyds admitted the takeover of HBOS had exposed the bank to huge losses.

Lloyds' chief executive Eric Daniels would be likely to stay if Sir Win became chairman, the Financial Times added.

Reports have also linked Sir Win with the chairman's post at Standard Chartered and with the chairmanship of UKFI.

Mr Daniels has been integrating Lloyds and HBOS, and has slashed around 7,000 jobs in an effort to cut costs.
