Northern Rock launches charge-free savings account

A charge-free access account has been launched by Northern Rock and can be opened for £1.

The Regular Saver product will provide customers with a rate of five per cent gross per year and can be kick-started using cash, cheque or transfer.

Anth Mooney, marketing director for Northern Rock, believes this is the result of listening to feedback and it is giving the customers what they want.

He said: "This is another exciting addition to our range and hopefully it will be welcomed and meet the needs of customers."

Savers can deposit up to £250 per month and are able to choose either a passbook or statement-based account.
